What is a subdomain
A subdomain is the part of the address to the left of the main domain: blog.example.com, m.example.com, app.example.com. Technically, a search engine often treats a subdomain as a separate site with its own history, links, and indexing.
Why use subdomains
- Select a product or client portal.
- Separate blog or documentation.
- Test and staging environments.
- Regional or partner showcases.
How does a subdomain affect SEO?
The link juice and trust of the main domain does not always automatically strengthen the subdomain as much as the subpath example.com/blog. For commercial pages, it is often more profitable to keep content on the main domain in the /services and /blog directories.
When is a subdomain justified?
- A separate web application with a different architecture.
- A very different product and audience.
- Technical limitations of the monolith.
When is it better without a subdomain?
- Blog and SEO articles for a shared domain.
- Commercial landing pages for services.
- Content that needs general link juice.
