What is a subdomain

A subdomain is the part of the address to the left of the main domain: blog.example.com, m.example.com, app.example.com. Technically, a search engine often treats a subdomain as a separate site with its own history, links, and indexing.

Why use subdomains

  • Select a product or client portal.
  • Separate blog or documentation.
  • Test and staging environments.
  • Regional or partner showcases.

How does a subdomain affect SEO?

The link juice and trust of the main domain does not always automatically strengthen the subdomain as much as the subpath example.com/blog. For commercial pages, it is often more profitable to keep content on the main domain in the /services and /blog directories.

When is a subdomain justified?

  • A separate web application with a different architecture.
  • A very different product and audience.
  • Technical limitations of the monolith.

When is it better without a subdomain?

  • Blog and SEO articles for a shared domain.
  • Commercial landing pages for services.
  • Content that needs general link juice.
